Pilates is a method of exercise that consists of low-impact flexibility and muscular strength and endurance movements. Pilates emphasises proper postural alignment, core strength and muscle balance.
Amber and Harriet’s classes are suitable for all levels and blend classical matwork with the benefits of small props, like fitness circle, small balls, stretch bands, weighted balls and foam rollers. Pilates matwork is a challenging yet safe method to sculpt your body and help you to feel increased agility in your every day movements.
Jospeh Pilates was adamant that Pilates was about “the complete coordination of body, mind, and spirit.” This is one of the secrets of Pilates exercise: to practice each movement with total attention. Amber and Harriet will guide you to exercise in this way so the body and mind unite to bring forth the most benefit possible from each exercise.
Before you know it, you will have been completely focused on the movements and your body that you haven’t thought about anything else for an hour!
Harriet is one of our longest standing member of the Avalon Team, she offers various types of massage and a lovely Holistic Facial using Neal’s Yard products. She is now offering Private Pilates and a Pilates Class on Mondays 5.30pm-6.30pm.
Harriet found the love of Pilates after the birth of her first son, 10 years ago. “I used to be more focussed on cardio exercise but since having children and turning 40 my enthusiasm for a kinder form of exercise quickly developed and I found that Pilates ticked all the boxes”.
Harriet wanted to find another way to help her massage clients, a way to move them safely so improving posture, flexibility, creating body awareness, increasing core strength and stability, plus using exercises to stabilise the shoulder blades and therefore ease any neck and shoulder tension, something she sees frequently with her massage clients.
Harriet is a Certified Stott Pilates Instructor, having completed their Intensive Matwork Course in London.
Harriet’s class will be open to all levels, from those who have practiced before to those who are taking a leap of faith and trying Pilate for the first time. The class will be 60 minutes and will be mat based but using small equipment like fitness circle, weighted balls, small balls, foam rollers, gym balls and stretch bands.
