Winter Solstice Kirtan – Sound to Silence

The ancient practice of Kirtan (call and response chanting) is a heart opening practice that helps us to come out of our busy heads and into our hearts, deepening our connection with ourselves, the world and those around us. Kirtan is one of the eight limbs of yoga known as Bhakti Yoga or the Yoga of Devotion. In this practice we come together to chant mantras, often in the sacred language of Sanskrit. Through the powerful sound and vibration of the mantras we can find ourselves going into deep meditative states and experiences of stillness and joy. This practice can help us to connect with the very best of ourselves, whilst giving strength and courage to face challenges in our life. The practice itself is the teacher and no experience is necessary. It is not a practice of musical ability but a practice of the heart and everyone is welcome.

“Chanting is a way of getting in touch with yourself. It’s an opening of the heart and letting go of the mind and thoughts. It deepens the channel of Grace, and it’s way of being present in the moment.” Krishna Das
