This event is now sold out. To join our waiting list please email avalon@broughtonsanctuary.co.uk
Do you love bird song but find it confusing knowing who’s who? There are some great birdsong apps out there but knowing who’s singing from the nearest tree or bush without the need for a device….well, it’s a bit of a super-power!
So why not join us this spring for a guided introduction to learning birdsong?
Four sessions over four weeks in March with Jo Kennedy and Cathy Shaw.
Tuesday mornings
8.00am to 9.30am
4 March, 11 March, 18 March, 25 March
Over the course of four morning sessions you’ll gain the confidence to identify common birds by sound, as well as develop your listening skills and deepen your connection with the natural world. Each session will involve outdoor listening at various sites around the Sanctuary, and indoor ‘classroom’ time to listen, discuss, and begin to learn the sonic signatures of the local bird species. Outdoors we’ll have the added advantage of a parabolic microphone paired with silent disco headphones allowing us to take time to listen in detail to each bird’s song.
We’ll build up our repertoire over the four weeks based on who we hear, allowing you to consolidate at your own pace. In between sessions you’ll also be encouraged to listen to your own local birds, make recordings on your phone and bring them back to discuss as a group.
Please note: This is a four-week course and you will get the most benefit and enjoyment from attending all the sessions. Only 8 places are available, so please check that you can make most of the dates before booking. Thank you.
