Conscious Cafe: Compassionate Leadership with Emma Slade
10th October 2019
18.00 - 21.00
What exactly is compassion and how can we bring it to our work or any leadership role we have in life or at home?
Firstly what does compassion actually mean … is it something we all naturally have or do we need to be taught? What does using it give rise to and how might we incorporate it into our everyday lives? Is there a place for compassion in our leadership roles that we might have at work, in our community or at home?
These are questions that our speaker tonight often addresses.
Emma Slade once had an exciting international career in finance until a heart-stopping moment in Jakarta subsequently caused her to look at her whole life differently. She left the jet-set career behind and trained in yoga and meditation, ultimately becoming the first Western woman to be ordained in the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan as a Buddhist nun. She was named Pema Deki which means blissful lotus, and now spends much of her time teaching and leading her own charity fund-raising for a special needs school in Bhutan.
Bringing heart to whatever we do is central to the Buddhist tradition. Going beyond the human need for self compassion, Emma will explore with us the role compassion can play practically in our daily lives both with our families, our community and our work.
Emma is leading a Yoga & Meditation Retreat at Avalon Wellbeing on 11-13 October. She is the author of the inspirational book Set Free and will be happy to sign copies of her books at the event.
Tickets cost £9 + fees in advance or £12 cash on the door. (Includes a donation to Emma's charity project)
