Yes, you can enjoy wild swimming in winter!

The benefits of swimming in nature are numerous, from improved immunity to better mental health.

Our Christmas dippers here are seasoned cold water swimmers, but if you’re trying it for the first time there are a few guidelines to help you get the most out of a swim in winter.

🏊‍♀️ Check that the place you’re swimming is safe- pollution or currents mean that not everywhere is suitable.

🏊‍♂️ Find someone to go with- better yet, join a club!

🏊🏽‍♂️ Ease your way in slowly so that your body can get used to the cold.

🏊🏽 Stay close to the edge of wherever you’re swimming. Cold water can make us feel breathless so it’s good to have that extra security.

🏊🏿‍♀️ There’s an accepted rule that a safe swim time equals the number of degrees of water temp. So if the water is 5 degrees, stay in for 5 mins.

🏊🏻‍♀️Warm up quickly afterwards. Our body temp continues to drop for 10 mins after a cold water immersion, so it’s a great excuse for a hot chocolate!

Have you braved cold water in cold weather? How did you find it?
